Classic/Antique Car Repair: Replacing Door Seals, ford mainline, weather striping

Question
I would like to replace the weather striping around the doors of my '54 Meteor (USA equivalent to Ford Mainline)without damaging the original paint. This is a very low mileage original with very good paint in the door seal area that I would like to keep factor original – but the rubber itself is dried out and leaking.

Is there a product that can remove the old glue yet not affect the old factory paint? Or, could you scrape it off with a soft appropriately profiled object?

Also, could you recommend an adhesive for installing the new seal? I already have sourced the factory matching rubber.

Thanks for helping all of us factor-original-is-better car guys/girls.

Answer
I have never known "Goo-gone" to harm paint. It may take several applications, and time.

For replacement use yellow contact cement. Note: it and "Goo-gone" are not friends, so clean surface well. Also, the excess is very visible, so use deliberately.
