Classic/Antique Car Repair: GEAR SHIFT RATTLE, dogear, column shift

1941 PACKARD 120 3SPEED COLUMN SHIFT , WHEN DRIVING IN 2ND GEAR THE GEAR SHIFT RATTLES UP AND DOWN , HOW CAN I FIX THIS?

Answer
If it simply rattles, replace the bushings both top and bottom of the shifter rod, making sure there is no slop where the dogear for second gear attaches to the transmission.

If however, it rattles and jumps out of gear, you will have to rebuild the transmission to stop it.
