Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1949 Nash 600, fuel gauge, procedure description

Question
A friend needs to remove the fuel gauge from his '49 Nash. Its in a pod that has no obvious way of removal. Do you have a procedure description?
thanks for any help!

Answer
Dale, there was a time when I was younger and thinner that I used to be able to lay on the front floor between the pedals and the seat. Then I could look up behind the dash, sometimes with the aid of a mirror, and see the back of the dash. That is how we used to get the gages out of those cars. Today I would remove the front seat giving more room. Good luck.
