Classic/Antique Car Repair: service light, jerks, rpm

my service light has been coming on, and i have taken it to the shop,and know whats wrong, but cant get it fixed til monday  when i get back in town.  It jerks once in a while, once the RPM goes down, is it safe to drive?

David you have not given me enough information to answer this question. If you know what the problem is as you say then let me know and I can then answer the question. There are literally dozens of reasons that the check engine light will come on. Some of the causes will put the computer in limp in mode on some cars and others will cause problems.
