Classic/Antique Car Repair: Hi speed transmitions, horsepower motor, drive shaft

QUESTION: I hav a 1955 first cires Chevy Pu. I have a trany Overdrive
with a 235 engine will I need to change the rear end as well.

ANSWER: my first response would be no....
You will not need to change the rearend.
You will probable need to have a new drive shaft made  The new trans will definitely be a different length.

QUESTION: Thanks for the info.  Here are some no. for the overdrive,that is on a 3 speed 1954 chevy transmission. 1-5 GM 19 RI Oh-IA Wg Div  3743368 A289. I don't know what I am looking for the determine what make the transmission is.

Your 235 motor is not a high horsepower motor, so we do not need to worry about any damage from that.

Again, everything seem to be in order.
Refer back to my first response about the drive shaft.

I have one more suggestion for you..
I would go to a local car show and talk to an owner of a 1955 Chevy. There is always at least one or two at every show. I know fro past experience that car show people are always happy to talk about their cars. Good luck let me know if I can help
