Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1968 GTO Temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, capillary tube

Question
I have atemp gauge (print on it says "auto gauge" range 0-280. It is paired with a matching oil pressure gauge side by side. The oil gauge works fine, backing lights work fine but the temp gauge reads 0 and never moves.
The temperature sending unit is located right next to the thermostat screwed into the manifold. Could the sending unit be the problem. Is there any way to test it. The last guy put it in with loctite and I'm afraid to unscrew it.
The GTO is a Ram air 400 engine. Are there any other possible solutions.
Thanks

Answer
I presume you mean after market gauges.

The sending unit could definitely be the problem, so could the gauge itself.

You did not say whether it is electric or sealed capillary tube. If electric, just drive a false signal of about 6v and see if the gauge moves.

If sealed capillary, not much you can do but replace it. Luckily, the replacements are not very costly.
