Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1956 Thunderbird Harmonic Balancer, belt pulleys, harmonic balancer

Question
On a 1956 thunderbird 312 c.i. motor the belt pulleys and balancer are made together. Is there anything other than the bolt in the end of the crank holding them on? I have a puller on them with a lot of pressure and it want come off.

Answer
No, just the big bolt in the center.  Sometimes these are really tough to get off.   Try leaving the puller on tight overnight - sometimes the temperature cycling over 24 hours will let it come loose.  It's been on there for 51 years, probably, so give it some time!

If it absolutely will not come off, you may have to destroy the balancer to get it off - but save the crankshaft for sure, and make sure you can find another balancer/pulley assembly before you do anything drastic.
