Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1977 corvette, jan brady, vacuum lines

Question
Hi Michael. I have a 1977 corvette. It does not have A/C.
When I turn the fan to the heater down as low as possible. It still blows out hot air. Is there anyway of shutting the motor off so it's not blowing hot air in the middle of summer or does this occur in all of the C3 vettes that didn't come with A/C.

Thanks
Jason

Answer
Hey Jason,

Do you intend on driving it in the winter?..if not do as I do and thats heater DELETE!, get rid of it all... A 77 will not really hold much value in stock form. 76 is last sting ray and 78 is 25th (although interior redesign)
So the 77 is like Jan Brady.

Anyway the answer to Q is you have heater core door open and also if fan is stll running you can do a few things.

1 you can trouble shoot the door not closing (Vacuum lines galore)and why fan is not shutting off<---hmmmmm (i'll have to pull out heater panel (few in garage) and look if theres seperate band to turn off fully)

2 you can remove fuse but still will have hot air being pushed through heater core.

You can drain core and bypass it running heater hose's back into block..at least for summer time

Or like I said Delete the whole thing, make templet for hole in firewall then rivit it in, you'll lose about 50 pounds of junk and vettes nead all the weight loss they can get.
But dont get stuck in cold rain cause your defog wont be there.

Hope this helps

PS But before you go my route and start hacking away, ask your self if your going to keep it for another 30 years? or at least make sure you design the delete so you can undelete it if you decide to sell it.

Or duct tape the door shut and pull the fuse;0..lol
