Classic/Antique Car Repair: saginaw transmission identification help!!, transmission identification, filler plug

Question
Hello! My dad has a saginaw standard transmission that he cannot remember where or what it came from. He gave me a load of numbers, here they are-drivers side 6261886. Passenger side-K 338935.Tail-6 or 8261884. GM2 also stamped on rear,and H24 stamped on pass side he thinks. He lives an hour away, and gave me this over the phone. All the surfing I have done has confirmed that it is a four speed, and a saginaw. Anything else would be greatly appreciated.Thank you, Al.

Hi Alan,

You really need a code like the following Example C8A10D This type of code denotes
C = Cleveland / Powerglide
8 = 1968, 1978
A = January
10 = 10th
D = Day

The only thing I got from the H24 was June 24th H=June
The K stands for McKinnon / 3-speed but you say its a 4 speed.

Locations for the numbers are below, if you can find them for me the best I can tell you is yr, month,day and that will also tell me if the guy on the line that put it together was drunk or not.

Muncie 3-speed = on the boss above the filler plug
Muncie 4-speed = on the right side of the case at the right side of the cover flange.
Saginaw 3- and 4-speed = on the lower right side of the case next to the rear cover

The Saginaw reverse shift lever is on the cover, and the cover has 7 bolts.

Let me know if you locate anything else

Mike
