Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1973 duster, malibu ss, mustang 64

Question
I have owned a lot of classic cars while I was growing up like a 64 falcon futura, 65 mustang, 64 Malibu ss. I never did much fixing on them just drove them. Now I have a 73 Duster I want to fix up. some of the stuff is easy like shocks, exhaust and so on but some stuff like the doors do not close right and the windows roll up off track. basically I need to know where I can get info on how to fix stuff like that. 318 engine and tranny are all good. I don't want to turn this into a show car but I would like a nice cruiser. any ideas. thanks

Answer
I'm glad to hear from someone who is willing to get his hands dirty fixing things!  That is how I got started in the hobby too.

The very best thing for you to do is to get a factory shop manual for your car.  In 1973, there were two manuals for your car, a Chassis Shop Manual and a Body shop manual; you need both of them.  You will find that there are excellent detailed instructions for the exact sort of repairs you need to do, and in fact just about anything you'll ever need to know about the car .

If you watch eBay, these manuals come up all the time, and they are quite reasonable, or you can save time by ordering them from one of the auto literature dealers - I use Ed Faxon, you can contact him at www.faxonautolit.com

They will have what you need, and are nice to deal with.

Good Luck - you have one of the most durable and usable old cars every built!  Just don't "hot rod" it - the rear axle is a bit fragile.
