Classic/Antique Car Repair: Distributors, 1969 pontiac lemans, 350ci motor

Question
Could you help me with a Pontiac question? I have a 1969 Pontiac LeMans with a 350ci motor. It has a points style distributor. Can I replace the points distributor with an HEI type distributor? Would this be a straight swap or would there be other changes I would need to make? I would like to keep the engine as close to the way it came from the factory as I can. Thanks for you help with this question.

Hi  if you wish to keep it stock , whay do you wish to change the dist.  If you get a new HEI dist. for the motor  it will fit , but you know that you just do not take the old one out and drop in the new one and  try to start it right up, as I get a lot of those. you know it must go in on the no #1 plug.  with the crank on tdc. on the comp. stroke and the rotor must face the #1 on the cap. ok as some do not know this, if I were you I would keep it all stock but you can put in a heavy duty coil and some good wires. ok
