Classic/Antique Car Repair: 70 nova ignition switch, turn signal switch, upper column

Question
how do you remove the ignition switch on a 70 nova

Answer
If your have to take the lock assembly apart, this is a very nasty job, you may want to take it to a lock smith to get this done, because you have to remove the turn signal switch first.  If you need directions to do this, ask again.

If you only need to get the switch itself off, things are bit easier:

The switch is mounted on the top of the mast jacket, inside the brake pedal support, and is actuated by a rod and rack assembly.

Step one is to disconnect the battery!

Then, lower the steering column (you may have to remove the upper column mounting bracket, depending on which body style you have).

Next, put the switch in the "LOCK" position, and remove the retaining screws, now you can lift off the switch.  Be sure the new switch is in the LOCK position before you install it.

If I answered the wrong question, ask again and I'll try harder.  I'll be off duty this weekend, so if you miss me, try Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
