-----Question-----
Hello Roger,
On a 1967 Buick skylark with 110,000 miles on a 340ci V/8 four barrel...what do you think about a rebuild, with a goal of maximizing performance, yet "streetable."?
What all would you suggest be done?
In terms of cost (Ball-park) would it be better to drop a crate motor...say a 383 stroker?
If so, would the existing auto trans and rear end handle it?
thanks

Loren;
Hea- well if you can afford it go wit the 383 Stroker , or a crate 327. H.P. fuely . as far as the tranny you can find a kit to beef it up a bit., if it blows it blows thats what its all about  -power, breaken down than fixen so it will not blow again. right.

Well, I've even thought of putting in a 502 BB. Right now, I'm just kicking around some ideas.
I do like the 327, but not for this car.
I have a 1965 high perf. 327 vette motor, 365hp in a 1928 Ford. It's bored .03 over, headers and some intake work, and runs strong.
But for the Buick, I'm thinking more , and BB, just for yuks.

Answer
Loren ; ok you got a 327 it runs good hua, nice rpms. and power.as far as a big block have you looked into a L88/454
and a 502 is in the same area. I just like the words L88 it rolls over the tongue nicely or 454 . yea !
If you type in (chevy crate motors prices) search you will see a lot of builders out there and some have some wild sh-- for what you are looking for a turn key can go for 8,000 and up.
Now I have my own brain thinking hea maybe do one more sleeper ? for my self?? If I can find the right body , like a 69 ss or a 66 ss
