Classic/Antique Car Repair: Headlight dimmer switch 1964 impala SS, 1964 impala ss, radio dial

Question
Tonight when I hit the dimmer switch to go from lo beams to bright, it cut off my headlights altogether. Also makes the light in the radio flash as you step on it. I had to drive home with my foot holding the switch down to keep headlights on (brights, unfortunately). If I let it go, they turn off completely. Do I need a electric shop ot just replace old dimmer switch? Thank you.

I'm not sure it's your only problem but since the dimmer switch is so cheap and easy to change, do that first - then see if you have any further problems.  The radio dial light is not connected in any way with the dimmer switch, unless somehow the bright light indicator bulb got cross wired with the radio dial light - that's a wierd one!  But change the dimmer switch and see what you have then.
