Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1962 Corvette ignition switch, key cylinder, small pin

Trying to remove the ignition key cylinder on a 1962 Corvette. What position does the key have to be in to remove the lock cylinder from the ignition switch. I've tried the off and on positions but cannot find the release? Thank You.

 Hi , as far as the switch , does it have a small pin hole on the backing plate , if yes you must push a pin or rod in the hole than it should pop out. as far as the key I never had to use a key as far as I can remember , but I would think in the on position. and remove all juice going to it. or un hook the battery.  ok
there might also be a rod in the back of the switch that you must push or pull to get it out.
