Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1950 chevrolet 3100, rear gears, chevrolet pickup

Question
I want to modify my 1950 3100 chevrolet pickup.most say to sub frame it,and put an updated rear end under it.can you tell me what kind of front end and rear axle i should get? I want to keep it at its normal height.or can i just put my cab and bed on a different chassis and if so.what would fit the best.Thanks

Answer
Andy ;
 Hea - well as far as the front end , I would do a serch
on the web. there are a bunch of sites with sub frame stuff , and as far as the rear , i would look for a buick housing, the axels are h.d. and the gears are  good also.
but you might find newer things when you do a serch.  ok. I would not put any gears higer than 4.11.  or 3.90s as the fuel cost are too high. a stock rear gears should be fine for the street.
