Classic/Antique Car Repair: car title, motor vehicles office, commercial outfits

Question
I found a 1950 pick-up for sale but has no title.  Is there a way to get a title for it if I were to purchase?
Thanks, Irma

Answer
That depends on which state you live in.  In some states, cars as old as this do not have titles, and in other states, you can have a new title issued when you show a valid bill of sale, and have the previous owner's signed release of interest in the vehicle.  Check with your local motor vehicles office to find out how to proceed in your state.

Some states can look up the official title for you and get you a copy of it for a small fee - they will need the VIN of the vehicle.  If it turns out the vehicle has been reported stolen or wrecked, though, you will be unable to get a clear title, so have the seller take care of this for you. If there is a problem, he will refuse, probably.   Then it's time to look elsewhere for a truck!

There are  commercial outfits in some states that will get you a title in their state for a fee. Once you have a title from that state, you can "buy" the vehicle from that person and now you have a legitimate title. One of these outfits is:

I do not know these people, but I assume they can help you. Contact them for more information.
