Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1987 Jag XJ6, vacuum hoses, vacuum leak

Question
Car is leaking transmission fluid and hesitates goping into third. Could problem be vacuum line? Where are the vacuum lines located?

Answer
Hi Sam,

The leak in the trans could be anything but the common leakage from that trans (if it has not been converted)is the gromet where the oil filler tube enters the trans. Best to wash the trans and put it on a lift and look for the leak.
A vacuum leak in the engine somewhere can effect engine performance which will effect trans shift but that should effect any up shift. Since you know you have a leak I would check trans oil level first. (engine running) There are no vacuum hoses on the trans unless it has had a conversion of some kind.
