Classic/Antique Car Repair: Rear bumper holes, dual exhaust pipes, pontiac laurentian

Question
Dick  On the back bumper of my 64 Pontiac Laurentian, there are two factory holes, about two inches diam.,on each end.  What are they for? Optional lights, dual exhaust,?  Just wondering.

Answer
I'll have to guess, since I'm not really familiar with the Canadian models.

If the holes appear to be factory made, they might be for back-up lights, which are about that size.  If they are pointed sort of horizonally toward the rear, and the car doesn't have back-up lights installed somewhere else on the car, that could be it.

If it has back-up lights installed somewhere else, then my second guess would be that someone had added factory dual exhaust pipes through the bumper.  If that's the case, I'd expect the holes to be somewhat crudely made.

That's all I can think of - there aren't very many things that are 2 inches in diameter that would go in or through the bumper.
