Classic/Antique Car Repair: ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP OR NOT !, electric fuel pump, stainless steel valve

Question
Hi Dick

Here what's goin' on with me and my 1966 Ford Mustang; 289 engine.
I'm retired and about 6 months ago my lovely wife bought me this car.

It needs engine work. So being new at all this engine stuff but very handy. I had some test made and low and behold the compress was very low. The intake manifold in the read leaked. So on and so forth.

Now the engine is out and hanging on the engine lift I bought. I have enough metal in the cylinder wall to bore it out as less as possible. Hoping for 30 thousandths.

Please bear with me Dick. I'll try to end this novel and get to the point.

What I want for the car and me is to have a little bit more performance. Not to race or drag around the street. Just a peppy little engine. A little above average.

Bought a new T5 tranny, new intake manifold, 4 barrel carb. Going to put duels exhaust in too.

HERE THE QUESTION: Do I buy an electric fuel pump or stay with the standard ?

Need you opinion and knownledge Dick. Sorry I had to fill you in on all this stuff. But you know how 65 yr.olers are . . . lol

P.S. my intension are:
Boreded out block
New Cam: a little above standard.
New H/rollers.
Stainless steel valve seats.
Above average water pump.
Above average oil pump.
New bigger radiator.
Electric fan.

And anything else you might think I need to do.

Dick, I'll buy quaility parts and want the engine to last.

I'm in your hands Dick.
Thank you for you patients with me. But I'm new to all this auto machanic stuff. I'm learning though.

GOD bless you and your family

Answer
I just realized I didn't answer your question!

You can put an electric fuel pump on it, but it won't make any difference at all to the way the car drives or performs.  The only difference you will notice is that it will not have to crank as long when you start it after a period of not being driven for a month or so - that's the good news.  The bad news is you may not like the noise the pump makes.

If you do put an electric pump on it, make sure it only puts out 3 to 5 PSI - any more than that will cause carburetor problems, as the needle valves will not be able to hold back the gas flow - the engine will flood and run terrible, the oil will get contaminated with fuel, and you'll have real problems then!
