Classic/Antique Car Repair: MG Midget clutch repair, clutch repair, moss motors

Question
We are working on a 72 midget, looking for a source to purchase a release bearing.  Also, are you aware of any engineering changes where the graphite disc has been replaced with an actual bearing for the throw out?

Answer
Hi Mike,

The 72 Midget was a 1275cc and a roller type bearing is available from Moss Motors (part # 190-920) (Mossmotors.com) However, the older smaller engines could have been a replacement and /or trans and pressure plates also could have been switched and the roller type will only work on the original 1275 eng./trans.
The difference being the amount of offset of the two mounting ears. The older / smaller engines had more of an offset. The 1275 had almost no offset. The carbon block type (original) can be purchased from several other British parts suppliers also like Victoria British (Victoriabritish.com) and others.
