Classic/Antique Car Repair: another 1957 wiring problem, fuse block, blown fuse

Question
I am writing in concurrence with Greg's question about the wiring (posted 8/7/2005). I'm having the EXACT same problems (no brake lights, tail lights, license plate light) with my 57 Bel Air, except that my dash lights have gone out, too. Did he ever figure out what was wrong? Thanks...

Answer
I don't recall the prior question (I have handled almost 2000 questions on here!) but your symptoms are that of a blown fuse - check your fuse block - either one of the fuses is blown or it is making bad contact to the clips that hold the fuses.   This is a very common problem for older cars, especially if you live in a damp area.  Get a test light and probe each end of each fuse, both the silver end caps on the fuses themselves and the copper clips that they snap into - you'll find there is one fuse blown - it supplies just the bulbs you list.

Sorry to be so slow in responding - the site must have been down or else had some problem, as I haven't been receiving questions for about a week - now I get a bunch all at once!
