Classic/Antique Car Repair: what engine to use, alfa romeo gtv, alfa romeo

Question
Roger,

Been working on my dream car for a couple of years.  Having a fellow in CA build it for me.  Need to decide on an engine.  The car is a 1971 Alfa Romeo GTV (in GTAm configuration - wider fenders).  Don't really want to use the lower HP and tempermental Italian 4 or the Twin Spark.  Rather would like to drop an american v6 or v8 into the engine bay.  Looking at the GM 215 (Buick) aluminum v8 tuned to put out between 250 and 300 hp.  Looked at some more modern Alfas (164) V6's but they only churn out about 200 hp.

Will be driving the car mostly as a second daily driver, fun weekender but may consider some soloII.

Any recommendations appreciated.

I have not heard the name Alfa Romeo in some time, if you just use the car as a fun car,and on weekends it should be just fine and with 250 - 300 h.p. you should have more than enouge power. Why cant you stick a 327 chevy in it, than you would have a lot of options as to what type of engine power you wish to run .You can use a large assortment of parts with that engine and run various manifolds, carbs, heads, etc. hi or lo end the parts are endless. good luck
