Classic/Antique Car Repair: carb, manifold for 1966 chevy impala, 1966 chevy impala, trans on the road

Question
Roger,
I finally got my 1966 Chevy Impala (283cid Powerglide trans) on the road.  Engine was rebuilt to stock.  Back in the 70's gas crunch I replaced my 2 bbl carb with a Holley Economaster carb.  Big mistake on my part.  I now have a chance to make things right.  Do I stick with an original Rochester 2bbl, upgrade to a 4 bbl Rochester (already have the intake manifold) or totally upgrade to aftermarket (Edelbrock carb, intake)?  I realize I do not need a high cfm carb.  Any opinions that you can offer would be appreciated.

Many thanks,  Jerry

 Jerry,
I would have to say  good for You , I love the 66
chevys it was a good year for looks I had 2 SS models 2 dr
4 speeds. with 396 in one and a 454 in second , I had put the motors in them. As far as the carbs. I think with the crazy gas prices that You would go for the smallest carb. as the 4bbl. is going to eat up the gas, and it was made for the hi octaine fuel so it will not be as good, so I would go with the 2bbl.I would not go for a 4bbl unless I put a new cam and lifters , a hi performance cam . Than the 4bbl would be cool but w/o a cam no way. stick with the orig. 2bbl if you are not going to put a cam, lifters, headers on it.ok save the $$$ on ga$ . good luck
Roger
