Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1967 )Oldsmobile Delta 88 4 door HT, oldsmobile delta 88, fuel gauge

Question
I have a 1967 Olds 88 which was parked in my garage for at least 20 years without having been started.A month ago I pulled it out and went to work on getting it started and was really surprised how easy it started. There seems to be very little problems,no leaks any where and it runs really well.
One problem is my fuel gauge, it is normally on top of the instrument dial but the needle moved about 90 deg. to the right with ignition off. With ignition on it seems to move the amount you would normally expect it move for the amount of gas in the tank. I filled the tank completely and hoped it centre it self but so far it has not responded.
My question is : Is my problem in the tank sending unit or at the gauge? I don't mind to pull the tank when near empty or the gauge if needed but would hate to do one or the other if it is not needed. So, where is my problem, is it the gauge or is it the sender.
Would much appreciate your advise on this.
Gerry.

Answer
Hea Gerry;
          I would have to say that I think it is in the tank , and if it has been sitting all that time I would have to say that you are lucky that there was no crud in the tank. I would put all new hoses and belts on it soon as they are old and they should blow soon if not allready. so I would check out the flout in the tank.OK
 ; PS you will have to replace the brake cylds, they will soon pop also due to the age of the car and sitting all that time, you do not want them to break when driving it.
