Classic/Antique Car Repair: ford trunks, ford fairmont, canned response

Question
hi dave ward...I got a nice '78 ford fairmont-- not all that different from the early sunliners. Clean and sleek. Only problem is the trunk rods have popped out and trunk flops closed.  I can see how they go but I can't figure out how to wind them up and into position- is there a special tools to use here?   Or a trick to getting them in? If you can help me I'll buy you a round  anywhere in new haven...Thank you.

Answer
Hi John,

I was trying to give you a "I don't have a clue" kind of canned response, but your offer of some hospitality in New Haven just can't be overlooked.  The chances of me getting from California to Nerw Haven are quite slim, but here's my best guess as to a fix:  other fellas in this position have used bicycle pliers or even vice grips.  I really don't know exactly what you're looking at, but my imagination is plenty active.  I hope this helps and I 'm glad to see the notion of hospitality is very alive and well in the north east!
