Classic/Antique Car Repair: ------------------------- Roger,..., ford street rod, pan gasket

Question
-------------------------
Roger, thanks for the quick response. Should I put the silicone on the pan or on the actual tranny flange? Also, do I do anything with the pan holes to flatten them down? Some seem to bent up. Does this make sense what I'm describing? Also, if on the pan, there seems to be a ridge along the middle of the outside flange. Does the silicone go inside or outside the ridge?

Question -
Roger, I have a 1974 350 engine in my 39 Ford street rod. The car sits idle at times, and I can't seem to keep the tranny from leaking aroung the pan gasket. I have tried cork, rubber with no results. It seems to wick the fluid out over time. Someone suggested silicone instead of a solid gaket.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
thanks

I would clean it good than try some silicone the blue  is good you might have to much psi ? when you tighten it do it in siequence and not to tight as you can re tighten it if needed.

Answer
ok
clean it off real good i would even give it a fast wipe with some med samd paper so it will make some lil groves on the (PAN) not the tranny also put silicone on the pan not tranny and yes you can put the pan on a vice or anvel or flat metel etc. and try to flatten any holes if needed and put the silicone on the inside of the pan at apx . 1/4 of a inch thick than let it set up good and when you put it on I would even use some small flat washers to go on the pan and a small star lock washer on top of it. that should do it up good.again tighten it up in a sequence and dont over tighten as you can always go more but if you strip or crack it than what right. and you can even dip each bolt into a lil silicone so it gets on the threds too. good luck
