Classic/Antique Car Repair: Dash Pot for a 1963 Buick Special, dash pot, lock nut

Question
We need to know where we can order this part from.  The Dash Pot on our Buick no longer retracts to adjust the idle.  We have tried carburetor cleaner, thinking it was just sticking, but it didn't work.  The car continues to idle too fast.

Answer
Contact Jon Hargrove at "The Carburetor Shop".  He will have the part.  Go to "www.thecarburetorshop.com"

However, are you sure that the problem is the Dash Pot?  You can take it off, you know, it is held with only one screw. If yours is the vacuum operated type, you'll need to plug the vacuum hose.

When you take it off, the car should idle down to regular curb idle. If it doesn't, your problem is elsewhere.  Things to check in that case are the fast idle cam on the choke, and the accellerator linkage all the way from the pedal to the carburetor.

The dash pots are adjustable, also - you can see a lock nut on the back side of it - loosen the lock nut then rotate the whole dash pot to adjust it for more or less idle speed.
