Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1968 PLYMOUTH FURY 3, plymouth fury 3, heater control valve

Question
I have a 1968 Plymouth Fury 3 in my shop with a V8.I need to replace the heater core.It looks like it has two heater cores,Two heater hoses go to one place on the firewall then goes to another spot on the firewall then back to the engine. Is there two heater cores? And how do you replace them? The heater box inside looks scary and not easy to remove.Note car does have AC.

Answer
No, it doesn't have two heater cores.  The heater hoses go first to the heater control valve, then from one of the control valve tubes, one hose goes over to the heater core itself.

Before you take on this job, you need to know that you are in for a nightmare on this car - You have to take out the AC plenum and heater control assembly before you can even start to get at the heater core, and you have to take off all the hoses, vacuum lines, control wires, resistor hook-up, and brackets, also the glove box, which will probably break up in your hands trying to get it out.

The heater core is buried in the AC evaporator plenum, and to get at it is a 10 step process which is much too complicated for me to try to describe to you without pictures for you to look at - you really need to get a factory service manual to show you how to do this job.  If the owner doesn't have the FSM, or isn't willing to buy one, I'd turn the job down.  Maybe it will be a short winter this year?!

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but this is a job that probably isn't worth doing, unless the owner is willing to pay for about 10 hours of labor.
