Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1975 nova, condition thanks, water filtering

Question
I wrote you a while back about replacing a 6 cylinder in my 75 nova. There is only 19,000 miles on the vehicle but someone I know through a friend has a 350 out of a camaro (early 80's) and wants $1200 for it. It is complete with the tranny and he says it has the shift kit in it. Also he says the engine has a cam, lifters and other work done. I looked at it and it has headers too but it has been stored in his backyard for about 5 years. He said it was covered well and runs good. Do you think I should bother doing all this work when the 6 runs perfectly well? I would like a fast 8 cylinder though. Also the body is in excellent condition. Thanks

Answer

The V8 is a world of diference with V6, it is pretty much powerfull and soft than V6 Engine, and the sound of engine is really exciting, specially in high speeds, so i do recomend you to put a V8 in your car, but i think that $1.200 is a little expensive for this engine, i suggest you pay around $1.000.

Also i recommend you to take this engine to a car repair center, put it over a bench, connect a container with fuel and a container with water, and turns it on in order to check some noises and fuel or water filtering. After that i do recommend you to check the compression of the engine with a tool that is available in any car repair center, that basically check the pressure inside the engine for every cilinder and with a value table you can check for this model the manufacturer specifications of compression (they have this tables too).

Good luck with the engine and fight for the price.
