Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1975 nova, cam set, guessing game

Question
I wrote you a while back about replacing a 6 cylinder in my 75 nova.  There is only 19,000 miles on the vehicle but someone I know through a friend has a 350 out of a camaro (early 80's) and wants $1200 for it.  It is complete with the tranny and he says it has the shift kit in it.  Also he says the engine has a cam, lifters and other work done.  I looked at it and it has headers too but it has been stored in his backyard for about 5 years.  He said it was covered well and runs good.  Do you think I should bother doing all this work when the 6 runs perfectly well?  I would like a fast 8 cylinder though.  Also the body is in excellent condition.  Thanks

Answer
ok how u doin
if thatcmotor got 5 yrs on it was it ever started once and a while or does it smoke run good? if so you might get a good deal but if it dosent run it could be rusted or scored in the cyld walls. that you will have to do a comp. over haul.  but you will get headers,a cam but what type of cam as if he dosent know you are now playing the guessing game stay away from it unless you put in a new cam. if you wish for some pep in your motor you must start someplace as the 6 is not going to cut it. no way. if the 350 runs ok tell him you will give him $1,000. cash and thats all. than pull the heads off and see what you have, also pull out te cam and check that out also as you can get a full cam set cam/gaskets/lifters.rods.keepers/the hole  kit so use a cam that you know what you have. also if pistons look good re-hone the cyld walls and replace new chrome molley rings. as far as intake use a good low profile aluminum and a good holly 650 dp or larger. and by all means use the headers as they will boost your h.p. by a hell of a lot good kuck let me know i will help you if you want it
