Classic/Antique Car Repair: engine work, chevy nova, 1975 chevy nova

Hi Dan, I have a 1975 chevy nova straight 6 cylinder, 3 speed automatic transmission.  I'm thinking of putting in a big block.  Would something like a 396 fit without much difficulty?  Also do you think I could use the same transmission?  Is there another engine you would recommend to make the job easier?  Thanks

first of all i recomend you to check if there was another engine of chevy nova that GM put originally in this car.

I don´t know very well this model, but i think that a classic 350 engine was available for this model.

i think that maybe a 396 is too big for this model and don´t fix in the hood, but i´m pretty sure that a 350 engine fix good, but maybe there was a special edition of chevy nove with 396, you have to check this out in google.

about the transmition, you can´t just put it and it works, maybe you have to modificate the relations between the transmition discs or maybe you have just to change the transmition, but i´m pretty sure that it doesn´t work without modifications.
