Classic/Antique Car Repair: Chevrolet AM radio 55 ?, delco radios, stromberg 97

Question
-Tom,
Are the specs/measurements  on the knobs and flush mount dial face helpful in I D of the Delco? I had this gut feeling about hookin' the radio up. It may just need the TLC and the replacement you mentioned.

I found three items at the flea market/swap meet. '41 Chevy Deluxe Heater with defroster. It has been restored. A Stromberg '97' carb. Three treasures. I will look forward to your reply on the confermation of the Delco. Thanks alot for your interest and help.

Question -
Could this Delco be a '55 Pass. radio? 12 volt, knobs measure 7 3/4 in. Face is 1 7/8 x 5 7/8.
The 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 can type tube has the part # 7265528

I do not know if the radio works. It is tube type. What would be the best way to hook it up and bench test it? This is all of the info I have on this flea market item.

Bob,
I will look up the number and let you know if this is a 55 Chevy radio. If you did find this at a flea market and the radio works or can be repaired without a great cost, you have a treasure. I know classis car owners that have paid over $500 for a good condition working radio. I wouldn't connect up the radio to test it until all the caps are replaced. After all these years the caps can become leaky and if they short out other parts can burn up. When I receive a classic radio for repair/restoration such as this type, the first thing I do is to completely dip clean the complete radio and then recap it. The dip cleaning won't harm the parts on the boards, it simply removes all the grease and grime that has built up on the board/s and mechanics.

Answer
Bob,
I looked over all my service info for early model Delco radios and the number that you gave isn't listed. I do see Delco models that have have simular numbers for 55-58 Chevy radios. If possible can you send me a photo of the radio, this way I can better ID it.
