Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1972 MGB, weber carburator, moss motors

Question
Hi Brian,

I have a 72 MGB with a WEBER Carburator. I would like to know how to tune the carburator. I can smell rich gas from the exhaust and it smoke sometimes. I would like to get some instructions.

My 2nd problem is, my cluch seem to stick or slow releasing  and that make the engine idle real loud. I am in the process of replacing the cluch master slave hoes. I read in the moss motors tech FAQ that sometimes the hoes may look good but it has colapse inside. Is this the right approach or should I be looking at something else?

Thanks,

Otis

Answer
Otis:

Sorry, can't help with the Weber Thing...it's a shame so many people took off those good ole SU carbs and put on a "racing" carb....never made sense, but some folks thought their running problems were because of the SU carbs, when really they never were adjusted properly.  I don't know Webers, never had one on any of my cars.

The second question is confusing to me...How would a sticking clutch make the engine louder (you said Idle loud?) I'm not sure what your problem really is from your description. You can't go wrong replacing the hose, particularly if it is or was the original---but that may not be your problem...again, I can't tell from your description.
