Classic/Antique Car Repair: Brake Drums, vintage chevrolet club, fellow club members

Question
My boyfriend bought a 1950 Chevy Fleetline Deluxe.  He is doing the work himself to keep it as original as possible.  The only problem we're having right now is locating brake drums for that particular year.  He's considering buying the disc conversion kit.  Could you please help us in locating the brake drums or offer any advice/suggestions.  Trust me, it would be greatly appreciated.

                Thank you

Answer
These are great looking cars, and it would be really nice to keep it all original.  Unfortunately, I really can't offer any suggestions as to where to find brake drums that are still safe for use.   I assume you are members of VCCA (the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America), but if not, be sure to join up and then just ask your local fellow club members - someone in the group will know who has a stash of parts for these cars.    Go to www.vcca.org  and just follow the link to sign up, and then attend a few meetings of the chapter closest to you - you'll find these folks are very helpful, and generous with their time and advice.

There were so many millions of these cars built, I think there must be some NOS drums around somewhere.

Good Luck with it.

Dick.
