Sometimes after starting it will not let you shift out of park,I have pressed the brake pedal several times and it will release. Its not every time but seems more often. Is there a lock out or do I have a brake problem?

The problem you describe its usually caused by a failing brake lamp switch.  Sometimes it results from a wiring failure in that same circuit or a failure of the release solenoid in the center console.  It's a pretty simple system and those three things are really the only trouble sources
