Dodge Repair: 09 Grand Caravan: rear running lights/VTSS not activating

Question
QUESTION: When unlocking the van with the key fob, the rear lights don't flash.  The headlights do, however.

ANSWER: Let me check that out in the manual. It may be a module issue. Is there something significant about that particular behavior? Is it the brake lights or the rear running lights that are supposed to flash?

QUESTION: I think its the tail lights that are supposed to flash.  Its helpful to know that the doors are unlocked and sometimes useful to know that we are approaching the correct red minivan (there are just a few out there)

Answer
Hi Mike,
I would verify that when you have the headlights 'on' that the tail lights are illuminating as well. If not, then the issue is the lighting wiring. If this is so, then there may be a fault code in the memory of the theft module that would suggest why this is happening only with the theft system function. Then if we can find the details about the fault code it could be addressed. Try turning the ignition switch "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reading is replaced by a 4-digit number preceded by a B.
If that doesn't work, then a readout with a plug in code reader will be needed. A nationwide auto parts store (e.g. Autozone) will often do that for free or an independent shop will do it for under $40. Let me know if you get a fault code and we'll try to go from there.
