Dodge Repair: 2002 intrepid tie rod bushing, cv joint, tie rod

on Tuesday I am having my tie rod bushings replaced as per my mechanic, however my father in-law said that when replacing these the CV joint usually will need replacing to(as in is a must do) is this true? or can I have just the tie rod bushing replaced?

the cv joint and tie rods are 2 separate systems  the cv joint comes from the tranny to driver the wheels  the tie rod are what steers the wheels. U can replace the bushings with out doing anything else  they are common for the bushings to come apart.
