Dodge Repair: 12 volt outlet: 06 Dodge Magnum/Chrysler 300, cigar lighter, dodge magnum

Question
QUESTION: how hard is it to fix a 12 volt outlet in 2006 dodge magnum  the oulet in the center console works but the one by the front ashtray doesn't

ANSWER: Hi Ron,
Those outlets use different fuses (all 20 amp size). The front console outlet needs fuse #9, while the front cigar lighter uses fuse #18. The rear outlet uses fuse #16.
The wiring to the outlet is a simple direct wire from the power distribution box itself so if the fuse is not blown then I can tell you which wire to 'follow' to the console to check first for electrical continuity using an ohmmeter or continuity tester and also to check for the ground wire continuity. Once you find the bad wire if that is the case I can tell you how to get to it.
Please 'rate' my answer (see below).
Thanks,
Roland

QUESTION: is it very hard to get to those wires  is there any inlimne fuses under the dash for the lighter

Answer
Hi Ron,
The location of the power distribution center is in the trunk, not the engine compartment.
I would suggest that you go to the powerbox located in the trunk, next to the battery, carefully check the two fuse I listed, and then let me know if the fuses are good. Then we can deal with the wiring details.
There are no fuses in the console.
Before digging into the console, try testing both prongs of the outled to see whether either one is connected to ground (any nearby shiney metal structure surface. If one is, then that means we have to find the problem in wire beteen the powerbox and the outlet.
