Dodge Repair: frequent repair of serpentine belt, power steering pump, serpentine belt

Question
Does a damaged steering pump cause a serpertine belt to break 4x.

Answer
Hi Misty,
If the only device being driven by the belt were the power steering pump then I would suspect that pump as the cause of the belt failure. If other devices are also being driven, then those would have to be evaluated as well as to causing the failure of the belt. It may also be true that the pulleys that carry the belt are not in a single plane to one another which can cause premature wear on the belt or the belt to come off the pulleys. If the power steering action seems faulty, and the pump bearing feels rough then I would suspect the pump is the cause.
