Volkswagen: 96 Jetta stalls, vw jetta, jetta 2

Question
'96 VW Jetta 2.0L, 100K miles. Runs great 90% of time. Will stall occasionally when stopped for a light. No warning, idling OK. Starts right up again. All systems check out OK on the OBD. A couple of times, when parked on a hill, with front end up, took a number of trys to start.
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Michael,

The 'hill thing' is kind of a Jetta quirk and is probably not related to this stalling issue.

Are you finding this happens particularly when your A/C is on?   There is a valve in there that is supposed to kick up the idle when the A/C compressor under the hood turns on to keep the inside cool.

Occasionally these valves go bad,  thus when at idle, the compressor may be stalling the car.

Let's start here,  and let me know what your status is.

Thanks,

Ron
