Dodge Repair: jeep grand cherokee, jeep grand cherokee, fuel air mixture

Question
What causes the engine of a jeep grand cherokee to turn oover alot when the engine is cold?

Answer
Hi Terry,
If you mean that you have to crank it for a long time before it catches and runs, then it may be an issue with the fuel/air mixture. The best way to find out would be to do a fault code readout which you may be able to do with your ignition key, depending upon the year of the vehicle. Turn the key 'on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odomteter window to see if some 4-digit numbers replace the mileage reading. Let me know. You can also get a readout, often for free using a plug-in code reader, at an Autozone or similar nationwide parts store. Once we get a code number we can go from there. Let me know the year and engine size (L) of the vehicle.

Thanks,
