Dodge Repair: 1999 Dodge Intrepid Air Conditioning Problem, 4 digit numbers, autoparts store

Question
I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid with the 2.7L motor. I recently changed the AC compressor, Drier, and Expansion Valve. Had a vacuum pulled on the car and charged the system. But now the motors RPM's drop as if it were going to die and then raise up to about 1500 to 2000 when idling. I put a Gauge on the Low side and it would read right about 40 psi and then would jump up to around 55 psi and then back down to 40 and it keeps going. I can hear the compressors clutch cycling as well while this is happening. And the AC does not work as well when this is happening. Just trying to figure out what causes this. Thanks for any and all help.

Answer
Hi Keegan,
I believe that the automatic idle speed motor is supposed to be adjusted by the pcm in line with the closing of the AC compressor clutch, but let me check that out for sure. It may be an issue with AIS 'motor'. I assume this is not noticeable when you are driving (as opposed to idleing). You might try turning the ignition switch: 'on-off-on-off-on and leave on' doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reasding changes to show any 4-digit numbers preceded by a P. Let me know if you get such anumber, and if nothing changes in the window then get a free fault code readout at a nationwide autoparts store such as Autozone.

PS Yes the automatic idle speed motor should adjust. So you might want to try cleaning the throat of the throttle body and plate, and also use a Q-tip with solvent to clean the idle air passageway at the side of the throttle throat.
