Tires: Non factory tire size/Pressure, stock tires, inflation pressure

Question
I recently purchased a 1995 ford explorer that has 31x10.50R 15's on the factory wheels and the tire placard states that the stock tires (p235 75R 15) should carry 26 psi front and rear. What would be the correct pressure for these tires on these rims? Thank you in advance.

Answer
Jerry,

I hope you are aware that your vehicle was part of the Ford/Firestone situation about 10 years ago.  At the time, there was some controversy about the inflation pressure being too low.  Ford eventually changed the pressure recommendation to 30 psi - and I am going to go there as a starting point.

In order to carry the same load a P235/75R15 does at 30 psi, a 31x10.50R15LT has to use 34 psi.
