Dodge Repair: Car Alarm wont disarm: 96 minivan, dodge caravan, lock switch

Question
Every time I unlock my '96 Dodge Caravan, my alarm goes off.....I play with the locks and start the ignition and it still keeps going. The only way it stops is if I pull the positive part to my battery and reset the whole car.  Is there anyway I can disarm it because at 6am, I don't think my alarm should be going off....

Answer
Hi Belky,
I would suspect that the wire from the driver door lock switch that disarms the theft system has broken due to fatigue so that the 'message' is not being received by the body computer that you have opened the door with the key. Have you tried opening the passenger side door lock to see is that also failts to disarm? Have you tried opening the lift gate lock to see if that disarms it? Any of the three of those door locks can disarm the system.
You can avoid the problem entirely by never setting up the alarm: when you secure the van do not lock the doors with the power door lock switch, do not lock the doors with a door key, do not lock it using the remote fob if you have that also.  Rather secure the vehicle by using the mechanical push-bottons on the inside of each unlocked door to secure them all, then exit the van and notice that the security light on the instrument panel will not become illuminated. Then you can come back and unlock the door without the alarm going 'off'.
If you want to try and repair the system so you can use it, then try the approach I listed above to see whether the passenger door or lift gate door will disarm your vehicle, and then tell me the results of those tests. I can tell you what wire to check for being 'open', etc. and then you can seek to repair it. But by not using the alarm by never arming it you can avoid the hassle of the false-alarm you now experience.
