Dodge Repair: insturment cluster lights: 01 Dodge Ram, dodge ram, katlyn

Question
My boyfriend got a 2001 dodge ram with the 5.9 v8, we bought it from a dealership that said they didn't know why the dash lighrs were not working because the fuse was there. After looking we relized that there was no fuse and replaced it! after the fuse was replaced it continued to blow randomly. Is there a known electrical problem that could cause this?

Answer
Hi Katlyn,
Unfortunately I don't have a manual for the '01 model, my oldest is for the '04 which I believe is quite a bit different from the '01. I would suggest that you remove the cluster and check out the plug and harness that attaches to the circuit board and also the bulbs and their sockets for possible short circuiting due to damaged insulation. One of the cluster bulbs may simply have an internal intermittent short circuit so you could try replacing all the bulbs that are for illumination purpose which shouldn't cost too much to try.
