Dodge Repair: 1994 Dodge caravan, fuel pump relay, dodge caravan

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1994 Dodge Caravan 6 cycle. 3.0 Liter.  I have replaced the following: fuel filter, air and breather filters, the cold intake hose. fuel pump relay, Plugs, wires and cap. Distributor, timing belt and water pump.  It Starts but will stall after it sits for a while.  I have a hard time restarting and keeping it started.  Fuel pump sounds like it is working.  Help?

ANSWER: A failing fuel pump could cause this but so could many other components. One that comes to mind would be an obstructed exhaust system, Catalytic converter or muffler. But, did you replace all these parts in an attempt to repair the stalling concern? Or were they just needed for one reason or another.

QUESTION: All the items need replaced except for the fuel pump relay.  I replaced the relay in hopes that it was the answer.  The other items were replaced because it need to be done.  I also thought the fuel filter and tune up would help but it did not.

ANSWER: I would still have the fuel pump checked first. Both for pressure and flow. I have not seen any fuel pump relays go bad so I don't believe that would have caused your concern.

QUESTION: I just replaced the MAP sensor this past weekend and reset the computer by taking the terminals of the battery.  it start a little choppy but evened out and ran fine all weekend with no problem.  This morning I went to start it and it started but died after about 1 minute.  It started a couple more times and did the same thing.  Then I had a hard time starting it and keep it running. Fuel pump sounds like it is working, it makes nose every time I turn the key.

Answer
I would still have the fuel pump tested for pressure and flow. Without confirming that it has both good pressure and flow you may end up chasing too many possible causes for you condition. With that said, you may want to look at the EGR valve as a possible suspect also. Try disconnecting the vacuum hose which leads to the black plastic valve which attaches to the EGR valve. If that helps the running problem then you know that the EGR valve needs replacing.
