Dodge Repair: dodge grand caravan, dodge grand caravan, 2003 dodge grand caravan

Question
The airbag light is on in my 2003 dodge grand caravan. I was told by a mechanic to unhook the battery for about an hour and it should reset and the light will go out. So i did this when I hooked the battery back up the van will not start. It just clicks. I have been told it is in lock down mode/anti theft mode. I can not figure out how to get it to start.

Answer
While it is possible that an anti-theft system has been engaged, the condition you describe would not be the way a factory system would operate. Just disconnecting the battery has no affect on a factory system. The factory system would allow you to start the vehicle but would cut it off after 3-5 seconds, not ddisable the starter system. That is unless you reached the lockout stage. In which case you have to have it towed to a dealer for repair. Recheck your battery termanal connections and look around under the dash for an aftermarket alarm system.
