Dodge Repair: front right axle seal 01 dodge 3/4 ton, residual oil, special tools

Question
hi there,
i recently changed the front rt. hub bearing assembly. when i got the old hub off(wow that was hard)the axle dropped just a touch and it came out about 3/4 of an inch. i now have some diff oil leaking out the axle housing at the end where the knuckle is. is there an easy way to change the seal? i know it wont be easy, im looking for advice on how to do this. do i have to take the diff out? i appreciate any help you could give.
thanks
steven

Answer
Some fluid leakage is normal after the front axle has been removed. Whether it be for a bearing or U-joint replacement. The seal is protected from being damaged by the axle splines, so I doubt that you damaged it in any way. For now, raise the left side of the axle on a curb or something like that and let the residual oil drain out of the axle tube. Clean up as much oil as possible and check it from time to time to see if the oil is still leaking. And your right. Replacing those seals is no picnic. It requires disassembling the front axle and the use of quite a few special tools as well.
