Dodge Repair: 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Instrument Cluster, odb ii scanner, dodge ram 1500

Question
QUESTION: I just changed out my Instrument cluster to one that has the Tach in the cluster nothing wrong with the one I had Just wanted the tach option. Everything works great, but when I turn the ignition switch to acc everything appears okay but the mileage shows 185263 and the mileage is actually 85263. The once I start the truck the mileage shows no bus and the check engine light comes on. I got the cluster from junk yard who assured me that it was working fine and it does except for this. Truck runs fine all gauges are working correctly. What do I do? I have not put my scanner on yet. Is there something I need to reset?

ANSWER: if it works u will haft to go to a dealer and have the cluster programed to your truck  if they even can. And as for as the check engine lights and no bus  the cluster more then likely does not work for your turck  so I would swap it back.

QUESTION: If it doesn't work why does all the gauges operate correctly. The low fuel light came on, and I was almost of fuel. The tach is dead on with my SUN tach. And the trip meter is working. Can they maybe flash the computer would they help. I do not get any trouble codes when I put my ODB II scanner everything passes. The cluster came out of the same year model as mine. I may just have to live with no odometer. Does the computer store the mileage or the cluster??

Answer
U more then likely have some of the same circuits on the board as the old one U had  why u have the check engine light and other stuff would be the other circuits that I just said either A does not have the wires to back them up on the connector  or  the wires are in a different pin in the connector for the old cluster. And yes the miles are stored in the cluster or are bussed out over the network and no u can not change them. Maybe a program from the dealer which will relearn all the features on the cluster may transfer over the correct miles  and then again maybe not  I have not had this kinda situation arise with me b4.
If it was easy to change the miles then we would have a big issue on hand do to the role back of miles and brake the law.
